National Institute of Technology Sikkim (NIT Sikkim) is an Institute of National importance established by an act of the parliament. NIT Sikkim is one of the newly established NITs in North-East India and currently headed by Prof. Arun Baran Samaddar as Director of the institute. The institute has started with the vision that “India has the capability and the responsibility to offer the World Science & Technology essentially with sustainability, through philosophy, conscience and value system.” To fulfil the above vision, the institute’s mission is “to develop the students as ‘Thinking Engineers’ by nurturing them in attaining and enjoying the technical and scientific excellence, global exposure and at the same time in beholding the philosophy and the values for India and the world as a whole.”

Presently, it is operating from Ravangla, one of the bio-diverse tourist location of Sikkim. The institute has 7 departments including five engineering departments; e.g. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Civil Engineering (CE). Presently the institute offers B.Tech. degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and also PhD in Engineering, Science & Social Science.
